Coolant Level Sensor Bypass

The other day my coolant light on the Check-Control Panel turned on as I was driving to my next location. I checked the reservoir and the coolant level was indeed low. I topped off the reservoir and drove off and the light turned off. The following day the light turned on once again. At this point, I am hypothesizing there is a leak in the system. I was surprised to find the reservoir was full and the engine compartment was dry. You guessed it the coolant level sensor stopped functioning.

Obviously, you want to replace the sensor as soon as possible for safety reasons, but I do not like to see any warning lights on if the system is functioning properly. I decided to bypass the sensor temporarily until the proper replacement sensor arrived from Bavarian Autosport.

The following is a simple procedure to bypass the sensor:

Items Needed:
- 1 inch of wire (I leave it to you to choose the specific gauge.)
- Wire Strippers or Razor Blade

Procedure:

1. Strip off 1/3 of the insulation at each end of the 1 inch wire, leaving 1/3 insulated in the middle.

2. Pull the wiring harness off the sensor.

3. Place each end of the stripped wire in the harness and plug it back into the sensor.

This will turn the light off until you can replace the sensor. If you are lazy about checking your fluids you should replace your sensor as soon as possible to avoid serious and costly expenses you your precious vehicle.
